Miss Addie Snyder, aged i4,died very suddenly of inflammation of the bowels, last Saturday, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Snyder. She was a bright, promising girl. and her sudden taking off is very sad. The house of Adam Kalmbach, two ' miles west of here, took fire from a defective fluc last Friday morning, and was soon in ashes, with most of its contents. It was insured in the Germán Mutual. The loss was about $1,500, probably mostly covered by the insurance. They are having very interesting mission services all this week at St. Mary's church. Aaron Durand and family will move to Battle Creek in a week or two, to make their future home. There are few older residents of this village than they, and they will go away generally regretted. Matthew Kusterer, of Sharon, is just finishing a large and very fi i j farm house. Two tramps were arrested hcre on Wednesday nigtit for stealing overcoats trom Schenk's store and one from a buggy in town. W. W. Whucomb, pastor of the Baptist church, was in Lansing last ; week and over last Sunday, attending a chi'.rch meeting. The young people's societies of the local churches have prepared a l course of entertainments and lectI ures, the first of which they will have at the town hall next Friday night, in the Arion entertainers. Mr. Francis, of Howell, has been buying new milch cows about here, the past week, and has bought a dozen or more at S35 to S45 each. The market held its own the past week at 48c for wheat, 45c for rye, 30c for oats, and Sno for bcans, Si. 50 per barrel for apples; eggs, 15c; butter, 18c. Houses for rent are very scarce in Chelsea, and several who want to move here are in doubt about finding a suitable place. Several much needed sidewalks have been built in town, and several more much needed ones have not been built yet. Jas. Schermerhorn and Chas. R. Whitman spoke here last Monday night to a fair audience, for the democracy. Good interest was shown and democrats were braced up in their enthusiasm. Col. C. V. Deland failed to get any hearers last Saturday at North Lake, and the same at Sylvan Center on Monday. The people are not very enthusiastic over McKinleyism this fall, and it is not going to get the endorsement they are expecting.
