Washington, Nov. 1. - The president tías issued the followin-j proclamation: ''The American people should gratefully rendor thanksgiving and praise to tho Supreme Ruler of tho universa who has ívatchod over them with kindness and fostering oare during the year that has passod; they should also with huraility nd faith supplicate the Father of all morcies for cqntinued blessings according to their nceds, and they should by deeds of chari ty s ek the favor of the Giver of e very goud and perfect gift. "Thureforc, I, Grover Cleveland, president of the Unitod States, do hereby appolnt and set apart Thursday, thoáuth day of November instan;, as a day of Thanksgiving and prayer, to be kept and oblerved by all the people of the huid. "On that day let our ordinary work and business bo suspended arul let us meet in our acf.ustomed places of worship and givo thanks to Almighty (iod for our preservation asa natiun, for our immunity from áisease and pcstilence, foi' a renewal of oational rosjjerity and for every advanco in virtuc and intelligence that hasmarked our growth aa a people.
