Washington, Xov. 26.- The bids for the $50,000,000 bond issue reoently offered by Secretary CarUele were oponed at the treasury department at tho appointed hour. It was stated at the dopartment that a hurried calculatlon showed that the total nuniber of separate bids was 297, aggregating (164,870,900. The largest bid was the syndicale bid of the United States Trust oompany, Dresel, Morgan & Co., and others, at Í17.077 for the whole sum Or none. Th is bid was the largest offered, as tho aggregatie f bids above this figure was only for about $10,824, 150 of the loan, leaving about $39,ü75,t)50 at a less figure. It therefote ceins quite probable that the syndicale bid will be acoepted, althoiigfa Secrefeary Carllsle stated that he could not expresa an opinión as to the result until today, wlien the awards will ba made. Accorüing to tlie lernis of this bid the government will pay 2.87S por céat interost on che $50,000,000, is agalnstüper cent. canied by ilio Febniary issue. There is a pnssibilii y. however, l liat a close calculation will disclose thé tact that there is&sufficlent niunberof lils atabetter rate than this, whicli, witli bhe seoond syndicate bid at Hi S8ïw. or ;i.HlM per cent., niay make a combination slightly more advantsgeous to tl' goyernnjient than the other, although tliis is very improbable. !
