The nut tree babies, young and small, Lay in green eradles satín lined; Rockcd lightly by the slimmer wind; Ko bough did break, no eradle fall- The nut tree babies, one and all, Slept in their eradles peaeefully While wood doves crooned a lullaby. One autumn day the nut awoke. The yellow leaves were strewn about, And mischievous Jack Frost was out And played those babies Buch a joke ! Their eradles with a touch he broke, And t)ic brown nut tree babies feil One with another, all pellmell. But with the eoin,ing of the spring, When all the earth is green again With A])ril sun and April rain, "We shïill behold a curious thing - A crowd of saplings in a ring. Wliere every nut feil down will be A tiny little sproviting tree. Some day the saplings will be grown, And on their branches will be seen Hundreds of eradles, soft and green, Aniid the leaves thut make their crown, , For nut tree babies of their own, And winds will rock them low and high And wood doves eroon a lullaby.
