Arthur Hopper and wife, of Alpena, spent last week in this place. Herbert Williams and wife were here the last of the week. Mrs. C. C. James gave a pleasant reception to Elnier Bridgestock and wife. Chas. Austin and wife are entertaining friends. Geo. Van Atta, of Pontiac, and ü Farley, of South Lyon, are visiting relatives in this place. Mrs. S. Davis entertained her Chelsea friend last week. Miss Hattie McCarta and mother, of Chelsea, spent the Sabbath here. Miss B. Ferris is home af ter a six weeks' stay at Kalamazoo and Albion. Wm. Andrés has been entertaining friends. H. Easton and family, of Ann Arbor, have been here on a visit. Rev. L. Davis, of Detroit, was here Monday. H. Van Fleet and family, of Detroit, are visiting his brother. The Misses Olüe Pacey and Hattie Keith were Ann Arbor visitors, Tuesday. Miss M. Brooks, of Chelsea, has been visiting here. Torn McComb was at Hamburg Junction, Tuesday. T. B. Taylor, of Jackson, spent the Sabbath with his únele, A. Taylor, who has been on the sick list for sorac time but is recoverine. ÍJ Mrs. John iUcComb and family returned to her home in Ohio, after a twu months' stay with relatives. James McCabe entertained friends over Sunday. Mrs. Butler and neice are home from their Detroit visit. E. Stanton and wife occupy rooms with Mrs. John Bell, this winter. L. Alley and R. B. Honey were in Ann Arbor Friday. Miss Mary Food, of North Lake, has been visiting in this vicinity. Miss Mabel Straith entertained her friend last week. C. Curtís and family ate turkey with Ann Arbor friends, Thanksgiving. Ed. Croarkin and P. Sloan were in Ann Arbor, on business, Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Robbins, of Ypsilanti, spent Thanksgiving with their son and family. Misses Minnie. and Ha.el Stoup, of Ypsilanti, visited here several days of last week. John Pacey was in Hudson one day last week. The entertainment al the Gallager school house last Wednesday evening given by the school, netter! them $3-50 that vill be used towaid purchasing a dictionary. The entertainment at the opera house, Thursday night, was a good one. Thos. Rabbit has been at Chubbs' Corners for a few days, looking after his farming interests. Miss Jessie Robbins has gone to Vpsilanti to visit. Dr. J. W. Lee was home from Waterloo over Sunday. H. Davis made us a pleasant cali recently. B. Taylor and father were at the county seat, Friday. Em. Howard is in Ann Arbor acting as juror from this town during this month. Miss C. Carpenter spont the fïrst! of the week in Livingston county. Miss Ida Stevens has returned to her home in Mason, after ten days' visit with old friends. Miss Ida Marris, of Pinckney, was home over Sunday. The Misses Fleming entertained friends from Ann Arbor on Thanksgiving. The Misses Campbell and Straith were entertained by Xorth Lake friends last Sabbath. H. Cobb, of Pinckney, is spending the week bere. Frank Campbell and sister Minnie entertained a numberof their young friends at their home, Wednesday evening. A good time was had, and the evening was spent in games and dancing. Miss Vaughn and friend, of Ann Arbor, were here the 'ast of the week. The concert given at the opera house, Tuesday evening, by the Heberlein Concert Company, with Herman Heberlein, 'celloist, Miss Anna Louise Gillies, soprano, and Miss Katharine Ruth Heyman, pianiste, drew a large audience, and was greatly enjoyed by all. About sixty persons attended the Birkett church, last Sabbath, to hear Rev. Mr. McConnell of the Baptist church. Willard Ackerson and family, of Chelsea, spent Sunday at the home of Agur Taylor. The ladies of the Baptist church gave a chicken pie dinner on Wednesday, at the home of J. L. Smith. The Birkett Sunday school will hereafter meet at 3 o'clock p. m. Mrs. L. L. James entertained the Willing Workers' society on Wednesday, and tea was served.
