Omaha, Jan. 'A -A special to The Bee froni O'Noill, Neb., says that Mose Klliott, a well-known farmer, has been arrosted as one of the lynohors of Barrett Soott. The driver of tho Scutt carriage la said to have recognized him. Thore are no further developments in the case, though exeitenient is intense, ricott with his wife and little danghter, and his niece, Miss ilcWhorter, was being driven in a carriage to O'Neill from a visit to relativos at Seottville, Neb., when in a lonely part of the road the cry caine: "Halt, or wo will killyou." The horses were vvhipped up and a fusillade followed, Soott being shot in the cheek and Miss McWhorter in tho back, not fatally, )iowever. Scett and the driver, John Öchmidt, were theu blindfolded and carriel off, the driver being later released. The ladies were sent home in a closed carriage. The supposition Is that Scott was lynched. He defaulted as county treasurer in Í90.ÜÜ0 about t.wo years ago, and disftppeared. He was captured, tried, convicta!, and sentenced to live years in prison, but was at überty on an appeal bond. This is the crime that has boen atoned tor in death if the party has really lynched him, and of thero is little doubt in the minds of anybody.
