Spkingfield, Hls., Jan 14- Upon the report of Miss Florence Kelley, state factory inspector, that i largo number of children under 14 years of age were working iu the Alton gla.ss factory, Goveruor Altgeld orderod tho children discharged, their employinent boing a violation of tho luw. A oommittee oí represontatives of tlie glass faotory called on the governor and told him that 700 boys wure employed and that thoir wagea averaged 40 cents a day; that raany of tho children helped earn a support for thcir familes; that to einploy uien todo tho work would mako the product cost moro thau it coulil be sold for, and that it was impossiblc to pay higher wages. Tlic governor was inexorable. He gave the company until l'eb. 1 to get rid of tho boys under ia and to March 1 for those under 14.
