Weather freezing cold. Thermometer registered from 4 t 9 derees below zero for the last j days. Sleighing poor. Some more o: the beautiful is desired to improve it. Valentines are being discussed Almost time for them. Mr. and Mrs. Kldridge, of Quincy were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mell Barnes last week. Mrs. Barnes gave a card party in their honor Tuesday evening, and VVednesday evening a select dance at the I. O. O. F._parlors. About 20 couples were in attendance and it was a verj enjoyable affair. The Baptist ladies will hold their tea social at the residence of Mrs. F. Leonards, on County street, Tnesday aftei noon. The Eastern Star chapter will indulge in a social, Feb. 14, at the Masonic temple. Mr. Cease return ed Friday from a week's visit with his daughter, Mrs. McCoy, of Logansport, lowa. The L. O. T. M. gave Mrs. E. Pyle a pleasant surprise Saturday evening, the occasion being her birthday. Miss M. Cady went to Ann Arbor, Friday, to altend the Choral Union concert, and spent Saturday and Sunday with her friend, Miss Fisher, returning to her school work Monday morning. A number of the Milan people attendd the C.H. concert Friday evrning. Mrs. T. T. Lacey has rented part of her house to Mrs. Scheihauf and family. Mr. E., Case is quite ill with throat trouble. Miss E. Gard ner is temporary clerk for A. E. Putnam. Miss Matie bmith has gone to Union City, wliere she vvill bs the guest of Mrs. Alice Mili for a few days. Mf. Wra. Whaley is quite ill. Mrs. S. T. Blackmer and son have returned from their Corunna visit. Miss Alma Sill will visit Detroit friends soon for a number of days. The D. of R. social in the I. O. O. I"'. parlors was a picasant affair. Miss Wheeler, of Vernon, i.s the guest of her coasin, Mrs. George Minto. Mrs. Wrn. Taylór is still living, but therc seems to be littie hope of her recovery. F. Gauntlett att&nded the funeral of his mother, Mrs. R. Gauntlett, in Detroit, Thiirsday. Mrs. Cooper is on the sick list. Mrs. K. Andrus entertained guests out of t vn last week. Mr and Airs. E. Gay started out last Wednesday afternoon for a pleasant httle sleighrïde, as people do sometimës, yon know, and in the course of events and by a sleight of hand they all unawares were compelled to take an impromptu stroll. The weather was colci, as it often is in the winter, but they sensed it not, for the spilj from the cutter and the French leave of the horse made them warm like unto a furnace, and as no one was hart the affair was a scare. The spill was a lucky accident, after all. The cutter, to be sure, was converted on a short notúce into kindlinq; wood; the horse was hurt just slightly, but not seriously.
