Fire broke out shortly after six o'clock, Saturday evening, in the house of Mrs. Speechley on State street, occupied by Drs. Lynd and Campbell. The fire broke out in Dr. Campbell's room, while the family were at supper, and had made great headway before it was discovered. The fire department responded promptly to the alarm and saved the house. Dr. Camp bell's library was consumed, aud Dr. Lynd 's library damaged by the water. Dr. Campbell loses on his library $i,ooo, insured for $600. Eye witnesses are loud in their praise of the work of the fire department, which accomplished the seemingly impossible feat of confining the fire to the room in which it started.
