Amid the roaring whirlwind of poMtioal wrangling and civio controversy ns to the nltimate destiny of the capHalized Woman of today, it is as refreshiog as it is snrprising to find that a few öignified ■wornen have been oalmly effeoting one of the most important moverents of the age, the Woman's Legal Edncation society of the University of he City of New York haring prepared tho way for a novf and most adyanoed plane for woman's ceaseless activity in the stndy of law. Withoat stopping to nrguu wbether wonieu oan or cannot a strictly scvere courseof studr, ; whetber or iiot they are fitted by nature with suffltiient reasouing power to lollow a logioal argument, this society founded a course of law lectnres for wonen. The question has been often asked, Why shoold woraon stndy anything about law? The lawgivers of past ages have giveu the best answer to the question, when they act upon the maxim, "Iguorance of the law in no excuse. " If in the course of daily alïairs a woman may legally bo held responsible for what she does unwittingly, or for what she does not kuow at all, then tbe hour bas come when slie slioald know. The time has passed when, like the tidy yoong woman, we may carefnlly tear up receipted bilis lying in our desk, because that shows they are paid, or, like the new lady depositor, feel aggrieved when the bank notities us of au overdrawn account, altliough our checkbook is not yet traed up. Tlie tiine haa also passed when a woman with property, either personal or real, need have a legal luminary at her elbow to teil her where to sigu a paper, and especially to read it through before she sigus it. -
