Cecile Chamiuade, whose concertstuck was played recently by tbe Chicago orhestra, was born in Paris and is the nly woman composer who stauds oti qual footing with many of the mo.-t rominent composers of the day. After ;he first performance of this concertstuck Ambroise Thomas asserted, "This is not a woman who composes, but a composer who is woman." Miss Chaminade has written a symphoiiy, "The Amazons" also beautiful ballet music, and a quantity of songs and piano pieces.
