Paris, Tex., March 11.- A shocking doublé child murder was coramittect three miles Southwest of Rockton, a small tow fifteen southwest of hcre. Mrs. Mollio Carruthers. the wife of William Carruthers, a respoctable well-to-do farmer, went up to her room and gave her three children largo quantities of morphine. Next morning her husband, who was slceping in another room, heard heavy breathing in the children's apartments, nnd on going there found two of the childreu in a heavy stupor, from which ho was unablo to arouse them. Mrs. Carruthora said that she had given thom some chili tonic. Physicians were summoned, but could do nothing lor the two youngost, one 11 and the other 4 years old, boys, and Hoon both were dead. The oldest, a girl of 14, recovered aud is now out of danger. An investigation was begun, and in a few hours Mrs. Carruthers nnd Jim Stramste were arrested. They wero brought here and lodged in jail. After her arrival here Mrs. Carruthers udmlttod that she liml given the children morphine for the purpose of killing them. Sho said that tt was done to get them out of trouble and that she intended to follow them. lt developed, howevor, that she and her hosband were on bad tcrms and that Strange was the cause of it. She had left her husbaml once and gono away with Straiigo, hut Carruthers followed and rook rhiliren from hor. This caused her to ruCUrn home. She had been earrying on a secret correspondent with .Strange, and papers and other cvidence in the possession of the officers show that Mrs. Carruthers and Strange had planned to destroy the children and then leavethe country.
