Pa. farch IS.- Frelimi. nary steps were laken yesterday at Lafayette hall for the formation of a new nattonal party -whose maln object wlll b to secure prohi bition and the reform of politics grenerally. Dr. S. D. Woods of Oonnellsvllle. Pa., was elected president. A number of letters of regret Wfi-e read, tncludinsr those from Miss Francls E. Willard, ex-Gov. John P. Bt. John of Kansas, and Mrs. Anna M. Hammer, president of the Pennsyl-. ranta Wbnitn' Chrlstian Ternperance Union. The flrst orUer of business taken up was th selectlon of a name for the new party, and durins lts discussion the plans of the promoters came near being dtsrupted. Without reachlng a conclusiĆ³n as to j i name an adjournment was taken.
