Millers are now able to grind witb a length of rolls equal to 140 iuches per unit of 100 barrels of flour iu 24 hours and do good work. Recently the "plansit'ter" has stepped into notico and is used with a very great cap;icity both as a scalper and as a flour bolt. Tbe purifier is greatiy improved, varying in sizo froui eight feet in length by three ia width to tbreo feet square, with theattendant dust catcher. Many milis creditable to the ingcnuity of the builders have been devised to perform a number cf operations in vcry Binall space, cemprising rolh and separators, and aiso several pairs of rolls in one frame. In tne wheat cleaning room the tendency has been to use more machinas than formerly and to clean tbi wheat better. The flour as it comes !'om the reels is now packed with great rapidity and exactness, and tbe bran in 6ome of the largor milis is cornpressed into balf tbe former space by a machina tbat vrill pack 40 tons a day. Iu short, the whole improvement has been on the line of smaller machines with greater capacity, taking less room, nsiog a shorterroad from tbe wheat bin to the flour Back, and with a reduction in the amonnt of power required to ir.ake a barrel of flour.
