Sues For $20,000
Erwin Palmer, as the assignee or Charles F. Conrad and wife, of Dexter, Washtenaw county, commenced suit in the VVayne circuit court, Friday afternoon, against the Dexter Consolidated Mining Company for $20,000 damages. In 1886 Mr. Conrad, who owned thirteen-thirtieths of an iron mine, comprising sixty acres of land in Marquette county, upper penĂnsula, leased his interest to the Dexter Consolidated Mining Company for a period of twenty years. According to contract the company was to pay Mr. Conrad 25 cents per ton for every ton of iron taken from the mine up to 10,000 tons per year, and in addition to allow him 10 per cent of the value of the iron at the mine, over S2.50 per ton. The contract also specified as to the contingencies of a loss; as to time for payment, manner of weighing and the occupation of building on the mining property.
