Au English traveler in northern Russia writes to The Gardener's Cbronicle tbat nothiug surprised hirn more tban the universal preseuce of well grown flowering plants in dwelling rooms. Even ia the cells of mouasteries and in the studios of city photographers farther north fchan Archangel ho found such planta as oleauders, crotons, pelargoninms andfuchsias in almost every room. The doublé Windows, so necessary to keep out the cold, have a draft tight space between them fiüed with flowering plauts, and it does not seem necessary to open theni for air during the short hot sumiuer. From September to June the country is buried in suow and shut in by ice. The average temperatura for January is only 10 degiees. The July tem pera ture, however, has an average of 60 dogrees F., whioh is hardly to be wondered at wheu it is romen}bered that the sun shiues 22 hours out of the 24.
