Washington, May 2.- The monthly public debt statement issued by the treasury departmont shows the debt of the Uuited Status less cash in the treasury to be $17,839, 9U3, an inórense for the month oL $9,109,857. The onsh balance ip the treasury is 1180,817.916. a decrease during the last month of $7, 099, 315. The debt ig classiflod as follows: Interest bearing debt, $716,201, 1.10; increase for the month, $,349.950. Dabt on which interest haa ceased since maturity, $1,754,061); decrease for the month, $13,500. Deot bsaring no interest, 188 1,701,249, a deorease for the month of í:B3.847. There are also Saöij,iiS8,624 certiflcatea and treasury notes outstanding, against which thero is an equal nuount of cash in the treasury. The cash in the treasury 9 classifled as follows, Gold, ?139,993,153; silver, $510.818,574; paper, 119,833,579; disbursing officers' balances, etc., $i6, 797,027 -making a total of $787,448,335, against which there are domand liabiliüies outstanding amounting to (5U6, 624,419, leaving a cash balance of $18 ),817,yi6. The treasury statement of receipts and expenditurea during the month shows receipts as follows: (Justoms, $lü,4L3,086, as against $10,176,691 tor the mont.h of April, 1894; internal revenue, $10,648,930, as against fll.3tKl'i4 for April. 1894: miscellaneous, $1,145 aü9. which does not diffar materially trom the figures for April, 1894.
