Kicholson, the owner of the New Orleans Picayune and its editorial chief , combines in a remarkable way the qualities of a genuino poet and of a successful business woman. She was Miss Eliza Poitevent,the daughter of an old Huguenot f amily, and her cliildhood was pent i on the Pearl river, from which she has I taken the rather romantic pseudonym of "Pearl Ri vers. " Wliile still a young girl, she joined the staff of The Picayune as literary editor, shortly afterward marrying the owner, Colonel Holbrook.
