Absent, Mr. Schuh. j The minutes of the last regular and I specials of April 29th adopted. Mr. Clark moved that the petition of J. L. Capman for a sign on a post be granted. Yeas : President Clark, Bullis. Nays, none. Mr. Bullis moved that the following sidewalk specifications be approved : Specifications for building plank sidewalks - lst. They shall be of such material and width as is prescribed by the ordiof the city of Ann Arbor. 2nd. The gronnd along and underneath where any plank walk is to be constructed, shall in all casesjbe filled and graded with earth or gravel up to within four (4) inches of the inside walk grade, and shall be so graded and leveled that the sleepers shall have a complete and even hearing through their entire lenerth when Diaeed thereon. and shall be graded in every particular to the satisfaction of the the sidewalk inspector, provided, however, that whea the reqnired filling or grading is more than two (2) f eet the con tractor or owner may build said walk upon a, trestle constrnctd as f ollows to wit : a. The posts shall be fonr by four (4x4) -of proper length and shall be properly gained upon two (2) sides to the depth of one half (á) of an inofe and of a width sufficient to receive the sleepers. Said posts shall be set into the'ground not less than one foot, and placed not more than four feet apart from centers, lengthwise the walk and f ar enough apart crosswise the walk that the walk inay be of the reqnired width betwoen said posts. b. The sleepers shall be of two by four (2x4), placed in pairs in the gains in said posts and each sleeper nailed thereto w-ith two (2) twenty penny nails in each end of each and every sleeper. c. Said posts, each and every one, shall be braced crosswise the walkNvith two braces of one by six (lx 6) rongh pine or hemlock fencing nailéd at each end with not less than five (5) ten( 10) nails. The upper ends of the said braces will be placed and nailed just underneath the sleepers, the lower ends of the braces shall be nailed to the posts not more than six (6) inches above the ground nor less than three (3) inches. d. Every altérnate pair of poste (lengthwise the walk) shall extend npward above the sleepers to (2) feet and fonr (4) inches, and on the upper ends thereof shall be placed a handrail two by f otir (2x4) surf aced four sidcs and nailed each and every post with two twenty penny nails. e. A 1 inch by six inch board surf tced 2 sides sball be nailed to the posts half way between the top railing and the walk the ntiro length of the railing on both sides of the walk. f. All pl;mk walks shall be built and coastructed in every particular according to the ordinances and specifications, plaus and drawings on lile in the office of the city engineer of the city of Ann Arbor. g. The filling around the posts hall not be done until the sidewalk inspector has notified the contractors so to do, and that the walk has been constructed in accordance with the ordinances, pecifications, plans and drawings. Yeas: President Cl ark, Bullis. Nays, none. Mr. Bnllis moved that the application of Arthnr Kitson for permission to use a portion of 'División street for building matevials bo granted. Yeas : President Clark, Bullis. Nays, none. Mr. BnïT.s moed that tbo application of Charles A. Sauer for permi.ssiou to use a portion of División stroet for building materials be granted. Yeas: P:edeut Clark, Bullis. Nays, none. The app] of F. (J. Schleichcr to move a building along tb e public streets was graüted The bids of the Courier, Argus and Register Pnblishiug Co. for printing I banks were presented to the board. Mr. Bullis moved that the bid of the j Cotirier be accepted. Yeas : President Clark, Bullis. Nays, none. Mr. Bullis inoved that three copies of I the plmnbers rules be sent to each oompany doing plumbing in the city. Yeas : President Clark, Bullis. Nays, none. President Clark moved that the bidders for walk on N. Seventh street be notifled to rebid according to specifioations. Yeas : President Clark, Bullis. Nays, none. Mr. Bullis moved that Eberbaoh Drug and Chemical Co. be permitted to conneot with the sewer in the alley at the rear of their store. Yeas : President Clark, Bullis. Nays, noae.
