Welch Post No. 137, G. A. R. held their annual memorial services in University hall last evening. The hall was well filled and the exercises were very appropriate. Herman Krapf, the post comniander, made an excellent presiding offtcer. The speaker of the evening was Rev. C. T. Allen, of Detroit. He gave a masterly desoription of the battle of Spottsylvania in the wildemess. Prof. A. A. Stanley presided at the Frieze memorial organ in his usual delightful style. Too much praise cannot be given to Miss Lucy Cole for the excellent manner in which the school children sang. They showed the careful drill and instruction they had received. Miss Zena Thomson recited effectively "Our Defenders" in a clear voice. The exercises were altogether of the kind that cannot be repeated too often. No one could be present without having every patriotic feelng touched.
