Nashville, Tenu., May 30 - J. W. Kirk, superintendent of prisons, was accidentally shot in the head by A: J. Vaughn, ot' Williamson county, in the .tf.to treasurer's office. Vaughn and John Davis of Marshall county had soine words over an old matter, whtn Vaughn shot at Davis. Tho bullut missed Dávis and struck Kirk, infliotlng a dangerous wouhd. LATER - The wound received by Superintendenc Kirk is pronounced mortal. It appears that Vaughn, deputy warden at Coal Creek, Uischarged a guard named Paxton. The latter, accorapanied by Davis, who had recommended Paxton foi the place, went to the capítol to see Superintendent Kirk about the matter. Davis and Vaughn had sume words which led to blows. They wereseparated, butagain met. Vaughn drew a revolver and flred twice at Diivis. He attempted to firt again, when Kirk grasped his arm and the ball intended tor Davis struck Kirk. Vaughn and Davis were arrested.
