C0ÜNC1L CHA.MBER, I Ann Arbob, June 13, 1895. f Adjourned session. Called to order by President Hiscock. Roll called. Quorum presen;. COMMUNICATIONS AND FETITIONS. A petition signed by Elrnore Jacobus and 1 1 others asking f or the covering of a building within the flre limits with iron was read and referred to the fire departinent committee. A petition signed by F. Harpst and 16 others asking for the grading and fllling of Packard street between State and City Line was read and referred to the Street Committee. A petition signed by Henry Exinger and 11 others asking for a sidewalk on Oatheriue between Clark and Thirt3enth was read and referred to the 3idewalk Committee. REPORT OF STANDING COMMITTEE8. BUNANCE. To the Common Couucil : Your committee on nuance to whom was referrad the commnnication of Jacob A.Polhemus relative to the death of a borre said to have been causedby a defective or dangerous crossing, would respectfully report the same back without ïvcorumendation. H. J. Brown, Emmett Coon, C. H. Cady, Committee on Finance. SKWERS. To the Common Covincil : Yonr Committede on Sewers whom was referred the bids for costruoting the sewers in the Hill and Huron Street rlistricts would report that they have taken the same nnder consideratiou and would recommend that the conract be a-warded to Heury Collins, of Detroit, Yonr comimttee flnd no reasou why such coutracts should not be so awarded, provied said Collins furnish bonds satisfactory to this Council. Respectfully snbbmitted, C. H. Cady, John Koek, J. Laubengayer, H. J. Brown, H. G-. Prettyman, W. L. Taylor, Committee on Sewers. By Aid. Prettyamn : Resolved, that the report of the sewer committee be adopted and that the Board of Public Works be and are hereby authorized to enter into a contract on behalf of the city of Ann Arbor with Henry Collins, of Detroit, Michigan, in accordance with his correoted bid now on file with the City Clerk. Adopted as f ollows : Yeas - Aid. Moore, Maynard, Allmendineg', Koch, Snyder, Laubengayer, Brown, Ferguson, Taylor, Shadford, Prettyman, Coon, Butterfield, Cady, Pres. Hiscock - 15. Nays - None. Aid. Taylor moved to reconsider the resolution authorizing the Board of Public Works to replank the bridge over the M. C. R. R. Adopted. Aid. Taylor moved to lay resolution on the table. Adopted. By Aid. Koch Resolved, that the City Attorney be instructed to find out what right the company of the gravel road have inside of the city limits and report at the next meeting of the Uomrnon Council. Adopted. By Aid. Brown : Resolved, that the Board of Public Works be and is hereby directed to notify the owners of all property in front of whose property any dead trees are standing to remove the same without delay. Aid. Allmendinger moved as an amendmeut that all trees in the sidewalk be ordered removed whether alive or dead. The amendmentwas lost as follows : Yeas - Aid. Allraeninger, Snyder. Nays - Aid. Moore, Maynard, Koch, Lanbengayer, Brown, Ferguson, Taylor, Shadford, Prettyman, Coon, Butterfield, Cady, Pres. Hscock - 13. Aid. Allinendinger and Sayder changed their votes to yea. Aid. Prettyman offered the following as a substitute to Aid. Brown 's resolution : Resolved, that the Board of Public Works are hereby directed to remove dead trees within the oity after due notice to the owners of the property in front of whose premises such trees may be found. Aid. Brown accepted the substitite as the original resolution. Aid. Butterfield offered the f ollowing as a substitute to Aid. Prettyman's resolution : Resolved, that the Board of Public Works be directed to notify all persons in front of whose premises dead trees are standing to remove the same in such manner as the said Board shall direct within 20 days after service of such notice, and that any default thereof be reported to this Council. Yeas - Aid. Moore, Maynard, Allmendiuger, Koch, Snyder, Laubengayer, Brown, Ferguson, Taylor Shadfod, Prettyman, Coon, Butterfield, Cady, Pres. Hiscock - 15. Nays - None. By Aid. Snyder : Resolved, that a large oak tree in the center of the sidewalk on east side of Gott street near Miller avenue be removed by the Board of Public Works. Aid. Butterfield moved that the resolution be referred to the sidewalk committee. Adopted. Whereas, sotne time sinee there v;ts established in the building occupied by the fire department a city lock-up and has been used as such since established and Whereas, there is no room in the building for such lock up and it is deemed advisable to discontinue said lock-up and use the cominon jail of Washtenaw county for city prisoners, Therefore, oe it resolved that the city use the cominon jail of Wasktemvw county for its prisoners and that the lock-up be discontinued. Adopted. On rnotion the Council adjourned. City Clerk.
