The frese ilver is the off spring of the Ihard itimes through whic we have been jpa8sing,as was the green back inflafrian oraze whichgrow out o the panic of 1-873. In times of ex treme distress the people, in castin abont foT sanie means of relief, are prone to accept the first expedient pre eented. TheiT'Condition of-rnind is no Buch as to lead them to thoughtful in vestigation of tthe .proposed iremedy. The demagogie politician is always on hand at sttch times with nis :nostrum and ready to advocate anything which he thinks will catch the popular ear and lead to his preferment. As the people at sneh times are hard pressed for money, the faorite scheme of relief is the making of "more money." It is never difficsult nnder cironmstances like the present to onvince a multitude that if there be more money it will be easier to get, that ach individual will have more and prosperity will abouiid. That the theory that more money is all that is needed to insure the return of prosperty has been exploded a thousand times inakes not a whit of dififerenoe with those who wish to believe in it. That it is all that is needed to make times good, can be argued out to the entire satisfaction of any greenbaek or silver advocate nevertheless. But when prosperity returns these erazy notions disappear and the great majority of those who were led away by thena revert to normal j rinciples and are ready to follow competent financia] advisors. As the return of prosperity following resumption in 1879 diepelled the greenback miasma, so the rapidly rising prosperty of the present will no doubt kill the free coinage delusion.
