Whistling Law Unconstitutional
Omaha, June 24.- The supreme coun of Nebraska has rendered a decisión of graat interest to railroads. There is a law on the stacute books of the state compelling engineers to whistle at every public highway croasing and on failure to do so ohe railroad compauy is subject to a flue of Ï50, of whicn half goes to the informer. As a consequence there are maDy informants, particularly farmers, who make it a business to catch the engiaeer. A man Iets it go until he has a number of oases and then goes to court. The law has cost the Nobraska railroads sevoral sinaU fortunes, and every sait hitherto has reBulted favor of the plaintiffs and against th nvilroads. The suprema court has decided Uie law unconstitutional.
