Dr. W. F. Breakey made the addresg before the medical alumni Wednesday. He lamented the closingof the hospitals I during vacation and among other things said: "Ii is a matter of profound satisfaction to kuow that the fllthy attacks made ou the University and medical depártment particularly by sensational writers in a few papers vvere ignored by the 'greater and better part of the newspaper press. They are less harmful, doubtless because of what may be characterized as the outragemisly malicious, or vnlgarly silly spirit and toue. Such attacks may spatter and deface solid walls, but can never nndermine nor batter them down. "It is more serious to observe the efforts apparent in mauy ways the past year to discourage state aid to the University and the willingness to see the department of medicine and surgery, and the hospital crippled and arrested in its career of usefulness. "It seems a reasonable proposition that the state having founded a school of medicine, is vinder the obligation to maintaia it at the highest possilbe standard. ' '
