Howard Macomber was home over Sunday. Messrs. Staebler and W. C. Mack, of Arm Arbor, were in town on business Saturday. Mrs. Geo. Torrey spent a few days with Jackson friends. Miss Viola Shull, of Tecumseh, was the guest of the Misses Farrell. Miss Katie Braun, of Jackson, spent a few days at home. N. Schmid and family spent Snnday at Sand Lake. A number of our bicycle riders rode to Jackson last Sunday. Mrs. Win. Arnold and daiighter. of Tecumseh, visited friends in town a few days. Mr. aud Mrs. Ambler, of Brooklyn, were the guests of Mrs. Lehn. Mrs. Krenkel and children. of land, Chio, are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wager. Prof.Essery is enjoying his riew bicycle aud will remain here during his vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Tobías Laubengayer, of Soio, spent Satiirday with friends in town. Miss Anna Beech, of Wamplers Lake, has been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Waite. Mrs. A. F. Freeman went to Ypsilanti Wednesday to attend the nrasie teaeher's convtion. Ernest Kuenzler, who has been attendiug the university at Elmurst, 111., caine home for his vacation. Will Gieske has returned from an extended visit with his sister, Mrs. Rev. Beau, at Hespeler, Ont. Miss Winnie Cash, of Brooklyu, came here to attend the comruenement exercises Thursday evening. Mr. aud Mrs. Fred Field, of Tecumseh, came here to atteud the alumni reunion Friday evening. Miss Minnie McAdam will speud her vacation in Clinton, aud Miss Lucy Poucher in Brooklyn. "Mis .B. Tr.icy, of Napoleon, drove to Manchester last Thursday to attend the commencement exercises and visit with Mrs. Goodell. Miss Laura Slier wood, of Clinton, spent a few days visiting her uiut.Mrs. ! Chas. Sloat. The W. R. C give an ice creara social Saturday evetiing. Prof. Thos. Moran, of Johns Hopkins university, Md., arrived in town last Tuesday to spend his vacation with his pareu ts. " James and Florence Keilam, of Lima, drove to Manchester Thursday to attend the closiug exercises of the school. Mr. Eckert, who recently moved to this place, will begin teaching Germau school uext Monday. Mr. Eckert is an experieuced teacher, having taught for mauy years. Miss Mary Fliun, of Jackson, was summoued home on account of the death of her mother, who died Tuesday morning. Mrs. Flinn had been ill for sorue time, but not seriously uutil she received a stroke of paralysis Last Thursday f orenoon promotion exercises were held in the chapel of the Union school building and were well attended. All who took part did well, aud were neither absent nor tardy during the year. Of the 338 enroll ed pupils, 80 received year badges. The attendance was unusually good during the spring tewu, nearly 22 received term badges. The oustoni of giving badges to those neither absent or tardy during the term aud also for the year was adopted seven years ago, and a number of the scholars have been neither absent nor tardy for five cousecutive years. Thus endeth a prosperons year. Commencement exercises at Arbeiter hall last Thursday eveniug were listened to by an appreciative audience. The class, consisting of four boys and four girls, had their parts well learned and this reflects great credit on each of them. The ladies' quartette, from Ypsilanti, under the management of Mrs. Pease, sang nicely and responded to the enchores. The stage was tastefully decorated with the class colors, white and yellow, and the class motto, "Not yet." appeared in gilt letters. The Alumni re inion last Friday was much enjoyed by the members. In the morning the regular business meeting took place at which the following offlcers were elected for the ensuing year : President, C. W. Case; vice president, T. B .Bailey; recording secretary, Mrs. A .F. Freman ; corresponding secretary, Francis Logan; treasurer, Mr. L. J. Waters. In the evening the following literary program was given at Abeiter hall : Oration, Warren Spencer ; poem, James Waters ; essay, Mae Aylesworth. Miss Isabella Milieu sang a very pretty solo, as did also C. W. Case. Cari Burton, of Clinton, Mrs. A. F. Freeman and Mrs. J. Spafard fnrn:shed tho instrumental "music. The ,b;inqunt was served at the Goodyear house. The tables looked pretty and were loaded with good hings. The toasts given by Messrs. Chas. Leeson, A. D. English, Floyd Austin, C. F. Field and Geo. Rawson were pleasing and given in a olear straight forward manner. The reunions are always enjoyed by all and with undeminished number and increased prosperity may the members greet each other at the reunión of '96.
