The city was never more lavlshly decorated and never appeared to better advan tage. At the reception headquarters at Mechanica hall messengers are conBtantly bringing reporta from the 1,000 whitecapped Endeavorers who are at the railroad stations and boit landings, glving aid and directions to the delegates who are coming in from all parts of the country. By noon yesterday about 5,000 delegates had regiscered at Mechanica hall. It is estlmated that when the initial religious exercises preceding the oonvention began last night at the twenty meetings 80,1)00 delegates had arrived. It is expected thac about 15,000 more delegates reached the oity last night and early this morning, and the tndicatlons are that fully 50,000 delegates will at-J tend the varlous meetings of the conveation. The reception committee has met no difflculty in disposing of the throngs of delegates. The hotels are expeoted to take oareof about 10,000 persons, and accommodations have been seoured for 40,000 in the city and its suburbs. The great restaurant in Mechanica' hall is ready to f eed 15,000 persons daily, and :O,000 lunches can be supplied to delegates at the two big tents on the Coinmon. A large number of delegations arrived yesterday afternoon. Soon after 4 o'clock Iowa was heard from with 500, and the first Indiana section numbering 160 to be followed by 100 more this morning. Illinois had the banner delegation of the afternoon, when l,0lO Endeavorers reached here. Michigan and Ohio, with 800 deleeates. were represented early today. The spirit of the Eudeavorerg was glven a prelitninary test at nineteen meetings hjid stimultaneously last night in nineteen different churches 'in tho city's suburbs. These churchea are mostly headquarters of the different delegations.large numbers of whom attended tha meetings, together with hundreds of outsiders. The lauer gathered aboĆ¼t the entrances early, but were kept out until the delegatlons had been accommodated and then in many cases scores had to be turned away.
