A big deal in dry goods circles took place last Friday afternoon by which Walter C. Mack became the owner of the interest of Frederick Schmid in the dry goods firm of Mack & Schmid. The ten name will hereafter be Mack & Company. The policy of the firm will remain the same as heretofore as Walter C. Mack has had entire management of he business for a nuruber of years. Rnmors have been floating about concerning a partnership between Mr. Wal - ter Mack and Johu Koch in the furnitnre business and regarding a department store. Regarding these reports the Courier says : "As regarás Mr. Koch's deal that is not fully consumated. When completed Dhe proper announcemeut will be made. According to the provisons of their contract Mr. Koch is given until August 20 to reduce his stock to a given point. To expedite matters there will be a final sale of fornitura, carpets, draperies, etc. , and pi-ices will be made to reduce this stock so that the new company may begin as soon as possible with a new stook of goods. Mr. Koch is obliged to go to some health resort as advised by his doctor for a rnonth or more during which time the cleaning out sale will take place. The building will be reinodeled at once so that the cleaning out of inany goods is absolutely necessary. The report that the above change means a department store is wrong. The dry goods store will be devoted to goods usually kept in a dry goods store and the furmture store to goods pertaining to furniture, carpets, draperies and other household furnishings. " Mr. Walter C.
