New London, Conn., July 18. - Five saüors, members of the engineer's gang on the torpedo boat Ericsson, wore tembly scalded by the bursting o( a hot water pipe in the engine room whüo the boat was out on a run preliminary to her spoed trial, which is soon to take place. The men were all brought to this city in tho lighthouae tender Cactus. Their names and residences are aa follows: Austiu Williams, New York city; Joseph Hamllton, New York City; David Cody, Jersey City; Willinm Morwin, Dubuque, Ia. ; Jacob Strinsky, Dubuqtie, Ia. Details of the accident are very meagre, as the Ericsson is still out on the sound and tho injured mon are unable to talk niuch. Froui ono of them, however, a brief statement was obtained by a reporter of the Associated Press. He said that the boat was going at the rate of about twenty-eight knots an hour and was being pushed to attain the speed of 29 knots. Suddenly one of the big hot water pipes burst wlth the pressuro and covered theni all with the goalding water. The men wore only a thin shirt abore the walst and thelr bollos frorn the walst up were practicaüy parboiled.
