Moon's Effect On Peas And Beans
In the works of most old authors who have written on the subject of agriculture, or astrology as it is supposed to affect agricultura, frequent allnsions are made to the inflnence of the moon on the growth of plants. In all these booka the husbandman is especially cantioned to sow seed of a certain kind during the inorease of the moon, and those of another kind during its decrease. Peas and beans w?re accorded their share of this superstition, the carefnl gardener being espeoially admonished never to sow snch crops during the period between new and full moon. Sir Anthony F.tz Herbert says, "Take special care to sow your pease in the 'old' of the moon, 'cause then they will codd better and be sooner ripe. " Thomas Tusser writes to the same effect 'when he says : Sow peas or beans in the wane of the moon ; Who Boweth them sooner, he soweth too soon; That theywith the ))l;:net muy rest and riBe, And ñourisli v.-itli bearinK most nlontiful wise.
