Dean Hole and the Oxford Snob. Dean Hole, the distinguished English churchman, dearly loves a good joke. One day a soniewhat snobbish Oxford friend of his, wishing to impress upon the deau the high social character of his familiar acquaintances, wrote him a letter, beginning : "My dear countess, " and then scratching out "countess" substituted "Hole. " Whereupon the dean, not to be ontdone, began his reply, "My dear qneen," and then drew his pen throngh "qneen"and substituted "Dick.
