Coming Gun Seems To Be The Rifle

Washington, Aug. 8.- There has been received at the navy departoient a sample of steel three-fourths of an inch In thiokness whioh had been pierced by a rifle bullot of a caliber less than that of the present army rifle, or about .30. The sample is intereating in that it shows that the torpedo boats may be rendered useless by good shots frorn suoh rifles. The distance at whlch tho steel sample was pierced was about 200 feet.
