From au interview in Young VVomeu with Mis. D. O. Hill of Edinburgh, the fumons sculptor and sister of Sir Noel Patón, it is learned that she is in possessiou of au oil painting which she believes tu be the first portrait of Buins which Nasmyth executed. The pnblisher for whoni Burus sat to Nasmyth explained to the painter: "You will find Mr. Burus rather uervous at having his portrait painted. Try to put him at his ease. " Accordingly when the poet arrived Nasinyth said as he stood beside his easel: "Now, Mr. Burus, sit down for half au hour, aud we will have a chat while I finish off this work. Then I shall be ready for you. ' ' The poet sat down and talked away, little dreaming that the painter was rapidly transferring his animated face to the canvas.
