CiNciXNATr, Oct. 10.- A suelden burstIng out of ñames shortly after midnight in a tenement house caused the instant, death of one woman, tho fatal burninpc of ;hree persons, and the partial asphyxialion and serious burning of four more It was nearly 1 o'clock wheh a patrolman Btitnding at Sixth and Mountl streets tieard screams from a four-story tenement house 536 West Sixth street, near Smith. He found the build-ng in flanies with no flre-escape and the occupants cut off from sgress by the stairway. Every window not aflame was illled with frightened inmates shouting piteously for help. Very soon the fire engines and pólice were summoned, and the flrst work done was to rescue the horror-strieken inmates. Fortunately, the fire was soon got undor control, but not until its deadly work had been done Mrs Mary Holmes, 00 years old, was the lirst victim Little Raphael Uavis, the 4year-old son of the janitress, was so badly burned that liis injuries were pronounced fatal. He is, however, still alive, as are the others who were taken out and to the hospital JMrs. Pendery, daughter of Mrs. Holmes, had just arrived from New York, where she Í3 knowii ti ihe staga as May Kdwards She was earrted from the fourth floor prostrated from fright and painfully burned about the face and neck.
