The supervisors visited the county house yesterday and found everything iu excellent order. The farm buildings have been somewhat improved in the past few years. The old building, which has so long done service as the county house is kept in neat order and absolutely clean, the floors showing evidenco of frequent hard scrubbing. The best that can be done with the building is done, but as everyone knows who has been over the building, the design of the builders was bad. It is a crazy patch work building, a piece having been added on here and a piece there, and the pieces have not fitted, so that in stepping from one room to another you have to step np or down stairs. The corridors are long, involved affairs, winding and twistiug in such a ïabyrinthic way that one has to be pretty familiar with the building to gec abont it. Hnppily this fault has not yet proven the canse of loss of life, but the peopleof Washtenawhavemuch to fear that in case of big fire not all the frightened inmates will have presence of raind to get out of the labarynths, and any rescnersnot thoroughly familiar with the premises would stand a good chance of getting lost. But ye terday was feast day at the countyhouse. Nearly -Al the supervisors were there, aud a fine lookiug body of men they were. The press of the couuty had been invited aud of oonrse w poncW in goorlly nwube?, a free dinner beiug somethiug that is not offered them every day. A tape line pased around their waists wonld have needed a big extensión after that dinner. The dinuer was immense, both in qnality and amonnt. Tnere was much more than sufficient to feed the great nnmber of visitors - a good, solid, snbstautial dinner.prepared by excellent cooks. Mr. and Mrs. Shaukliind proved excellent entertaners and the board of poor supeirutendent", G. H. Kerapf, E. P. Misou and Elisha Loomis, were on hand, making itpktasant for everyone. There are not so many iuniates in the county honse this year as there ha.ve been in sorne previous years - the average number being 67. The connty house farra of 120 acres yieïded sonie good crops this year. From three and a half acres, seveu hundred bushels of potatoes vereraised - fine, large, mealy ones they werè. These wi)l all be used on the farm. From eleven a 'res of wheat, 220 hushels ■were obtained - a good, fair yield for this year. Then 21 bushels of barley was also raised. The corn erop was excellent. Mr. Shankland has proven himself a good farmer. The county is ruising all of its cwn pork and more th in is ned for irs poor. The aunual visit to the couuty house serves to keep alive the interest of the members of the board in the care of the eounty poor.
