The annual field day occurred today. The senior deutal olass has elected officers, with J. W. Lyon as president. The co-eds had an easy time gefcting the gymnasium for the freshman spread next nionth, but the regents in session this week voted down the proposition to allovv. the atbletic assuciation to give a party there, free of oost. The chivairy of it ! The Michigan-Harvard game, to take plaoe in Boston, has been postponed froin November 2 to November 9. A movement is on foot to form a Michigan alumni association in Detroit. The University foot ball eleven had no trouble ín defeating the D. A. C. eleven last Saturday afcernoon. The score was 42 to 0. The boys are becoxning oock sure of winning the game with Harvard, to be played in Boston, October 9. The Oracle has offered a $20 prize for best story and a $10 prize for be s poem submitted before Deoember 1. The Michigan res3rve eleven defeated the Ypailanti Normal school players last Saturday. Score, 10 to 0. Five of the leading fraternities have organized a dancing society oalled the "Forty." The Choral Union Socials this week decided upon $3 as the prize of tickets to the season's concerts. One dollar wül be chargeed for resevresd seats dnring festival week. The price for the festival week concerts alone will be $3. Secretary Wade announced the total attendance in the University on Monday of this week as 2, 708, diivded in the several departments as follows ; Literary, 1,119; engineering, 305; medical, 401; law, 607; dental, 175; pharmacy, 76; homeopathie, 25. Last year the total registration was, at this time, 2,548, showing a gain of 160. Providing the ratio of increase is kept up the attendauce this year will reach in the neighborhood of 3,100. For'thefirst time in its history the University will pass the 3,000 mark this year. '"Big Jim" Hooper, who played left guard with the team in '93, has reentered college and will play in bis old position. He hails from Butte, Montana. The Lewis art collection is being moved from its old place in the chapel room to the library and museum building. The collection had been stored with the hope that a new art building might be erected. The whole collection is valued at $300,000, and "The Twins, " by Wm. A. Bougerau, alone is worth $25,000. -The Surrender of Lee" is the largest paintiug in the collection and is valued at $20,000. Rose Bonheur is represented among the great artists. The flrst number of the Inlander was issued this week, with L. H. Pratt editor. It was a football uumber, a novelfcy in itself, and Manager Baird aud other athletes had space devoted to them. The story writers of last year were well represented and verse makers Kellogg and Bowmau have poetry that wöuld do credit to a volume of verses.
