This morniug's papers place the mim ber killed in the Detroit explosión as forty. Thirty-four mutilated bodies have been taken frotn the rnins and identified by friends. Bodies are beiug still removed honrly. It is generally beheved thar, thp cause of the accident lay iu the earelessness of the engineor, Thompson, who, it is claimed, often left his boilers. He has not been arrested. Mayor Pingree has ordered an invostigation. Thompson has i-efused to say auything, on legal advice. Oue of the men snpposed to be buried iu the Joavnal debris in Detroit is .Tames B. Thomas, who was formerly in the grocery business with his father on East Huron street. The News of last nigbt flays, of, him : "The missing James Thomas, who was employed iu the Dnulsip machine shop, resided at 8i)4 .Tanction avenue. 5e was married nnd thp father of a girl'of 1 I and a boy of 12 years No imui in the ueighborhood iu which Mr. Thomas lived was more widely known or more thoroughly respected. He was a pious member of the Fort street Cougregational ohuroh and one of the teachers in its Snnday school." Thomas' body had Dot beeu recovered up to this niorning.
