Jamos Clemente demise Tuesday evening at the fami) home on South State street, was eve more sudden than waa that of Mr Bach. Like Mr. Baoh's death, too, i removes a man who has become closel identifled with the oity and its progres - a man of sagacity, businoss prudeno and abilities of a no mean order. Beween 11) and 11 o'clock Tuesday ovonine the daughter, Miss Mary, sed her father's room and heard hiƱa breathing heavily. For a day or two he had been ailing, bnt he had made light of au attempt of hers to secure the ervices of . physioian. "It is only a 8light indispostion, "he had said and hs hought there was no need of adoctoi's oare and dismissed the idea with considerable strength. Wheu the daughter enfered bis room he was found to be unconscious and before the arrival of a lastily summoned physician death had claimed him. The deceased was',born [in England and had resided in this city sinoe 1858. He oonstrncted the gas works here and afterwards performed a similar service for the cities of Bay City, Lansing and Port Huron, in this state.Leavenworth, Kansas, and St. Joseph, Mo. He became iuterested in business concerns in Bay City and was the promoter and chief stockholder in the Industrial Works there. It was froin Bay City that he oame last Priday nigbr, feeling poorly and cpmplaining vliat he was uut in his usual rusged bealth. However, he attended a meecing of the stockholders of the First National bank Saturday night and was aroundabout botb Monday and Tuesday. He was au honorary pall bearer, too, at the funeral of Pnilip Bach last week. The deceased was a insmber of St. Andrew's Episcopal church, in which he had bei n a vestryman f or many years. In politics he was a repnblioan, but a firm supporter and admirer of President Cleveland. Iu 1864 he was elected to the legislatura from this district by the soldier vote, which was aftnrward declared unconstitutional by the supremo court, and he resigned after two mouths' service. Mr. Cleinent's wrfe died suddenly Ootober 7, 1893, and he never fully recovcrftd his spirits again. The family leit to mouru a kind father's loss conists of W. H. and H. W. Clements, of Bay City, Mrs. Ida Wheat, of Leavenyorth, Kansas, the daughter at home, Miss Mary Clement., and James Clements, jr.
