Our representatiye called at 118 Michin Avenue, the residence of Mr. Quintus Hummel. Mr. Hummel is a veteran of the late war, and recei ved, in the campaign, nu injury which has giyen him much pain ; and guffering since. He belonged to a i Michigan cavalry regiment and his horse becoming frightened one day reared up, throwing him backward. in falling ho struck his spine on a sharp stone, ; ing a deep cut over five inches long. The infury affected the kidneys. About twe vears ago the left kidney started to bleed, 'and has been doing so ever since. Mr. j Hummel, in a few pointed sentences, gave our representative the following account : "The accident of my 'wardays' left xne in bad shape; pain in my back aiid ! spine rendered me al most useless, and 1 ivas compelled to give up work entirely.
