Edwin R. Powell died at Stanton, this state, ou the 6th inst. His early years were connected with this city's history. In 1835 when a lad of lö years, Mr. Powell entered the office of the Aun Arbor State Journal and there learned the art of printing. A dispatch froru Stanton vonehsafes tho inforruation that Mr. Po wel 1 was ene of the founders of the Argus. This statement was inco reet. The Argus was organized in Jannary, 183S, by E. P. Gard uer. In 1840 the papar was purchased by a stock coinpauy and was plaoed in charge of Orrin Arnold. Mr. Powel] pnrühiised a half intorest soon after, Aruold & Powell being the lirm name. Mr. Powell, upon leavina; Anu Arbor, wont to Howell and p:m;basad the Livingston Courier. In 1849 heestablisheil the Iouin Gaüette. In 1809 Mr. Powell pstablished the Moutcalm County Her ald at Stauton. For 20 years he had been the paper's editor and he made it a wel! known jonrnal iu the state. He had always been a staunoh repnblican since the organization of the party.
