Washington, Jan. 9. - The navy department is advised of the departure of the cruiser Minneapolis from Alexandria for Srnyrna. The 3an Fxancisco is already there and tho Marblehead is at Marsene, 310 miles distant. This doubtless gave rise to the ovordrawn reports that a naval demonstration is about to oceur at Smyrna as a means of forcing the TurkIsh government to yild to the deniands of the United States for an indemnity for recent depredations on missionary property. Acting Secretary McAdoo said Wednesday that theie was no significance in the movements of the ships toward Smyrna.
