Prof. Hinsdale gave a very interestiug leoture bef ore the Unity club Monday e-ening upon Luther and Luther's country. Iu desoribing Lnther's old hnme and the soenes of bis career, the professor spoke from personal observation. He cpnsidered Luther one of the four greatest Qermaus, the others beiug Charletnagne, Barbarossa, and Bisinarck. His personality is everywhere ' reverenced in Germauy by socialists, rationalists, skepfios, agnóstica, infidel, as well as orthodox Lratberans. He il one of the great flgnros of history. Hii snooess was owing in great ineasnre to the f act that he had the support of political leaders who were ready to revolt against the eoclesiasticism of the day. He was the courageous mouth-piece of the ideas and feelings of the mass of the people of North Germany at the time he appeared. The leoture was written in a very elear and vigorous style, a style that would have delighted the hearc of Luther himself. The audience went away delighted and with iucreased respect for the characterof the great Qerman.
