The presence of xnind of a certain well known actor -was always very remarkable, but was neyr put to so severe a test as on the fonowing occasion : While actiiig the part of a pírate chief he was being conveyed in a vessel across the stage with his band of brigands on deck beside him. One of the supers, whose duty it was to work the waves tinder large sheets of gauze, wás so tinfortunate as to put his head throngh the ganze aud to appear standing in the middle of the mimio sea before the full view of the andieuce. The actor 011 the vessel, without losing his presence of ruind, called out, "A man overboard !" and the astonished super was hauled upon deck by the pirates amid the applause of the spectators, who irnaained it was a part of the play.
