A First Class Hoax

The medical fraternity is hnring a very hearty langh at Dr. Carrow's expense and all because he was given credit for a very remarkable operation this week, and one which the medical fraternity claim will uever be accomplisbed, even if theie is ever occasion for its performance. Tbe Detroit papers have heralded the operation throughout the state aud the local papers followed suit with au astouishing array of details. The story was to the effect that a patiënt sutïeriug froin a rnalady which destroyod the sight of one eye was fearful lost the other member shonld be similarly effpcted. Dr. Carrow thereupon, tbe story went, placed a watoh crystal beneath the lid and the fellow, for a time at least, was to gaze at the world tbrough the piece of glass. The wonder of snch an operatiou is apparent. Bnt what really was done was this : - Cotton was built up around and out froru the eye and u watch cryatal placed in the cotton about a half inoh from the optie. The orystal was outside and not inside the eye, and the "operation" can be readily soen through as nothing particularly remarkable.
