A shepherd at Chambery, Savoy, employs a horse instead of a dog to keep the herd together. The horse tmderstands the orders givenjbiin, and carries them out as intelligently as the best trained dog. Topic- Laliorors togetii( r with God.- 1. Cor. ii, 6-23. (Christiuu Endcavor day.) Tuis topic is a very appropriate one for the fifteenth anuiversary of the j gin of the Christian Endeavör ment. Fifteeu years ago there were two j societies and 64 members. Today there are 41,000 societies, with a inembership , of 2,000,000. Snch a marvelous growth [ can only bo account ed ,for by acknowledging the hand of God to have been in the origin and propagation oí this great movenicnt. Yet God used the hands of j men to carry forward His work. It bas ' been a divino human movement. The hand of God and the hand of man were both in i f. In this great inoveinent, as in all similar ones, God and man woiked together as colaborers. Men must ahvays be " labcrers together with God" if their work is successful. This is the f act tliat Paul eniphasizes in the topical reference. It is a fact that the most successful Christian workers have always admitted and emphasized. Notbing testifiesmorestrongly to the eminent Christian character of Rev. Francis E. Clark, D. D. , the special colaborer used by God in this great movement, than the fact that he has always recognized the hand of God in the moveinent and has emphasized that fact. In this respect we shonld all emulate the example of the great apostle and the leader of this ■wonderfnl young people's movement. If we are successful in our labors, we should attribute it to God, for it is not by might nor by power that the Lord 's work is done, but by His Spirit. Paul may plant, Apollos may water, but God alone can give the increase. "Not unto us, not unto us, but nato Thee, O Lord, be honor and glory," should be our motto in all the successes of life. Although God is the principal and aeuessary worker, still man's work is ilso necossary and important. The planting and the watering raust be ioiie in order that by the blessing of Bod the increase may come. We sbould aot think because God is the important ane in spiritual work that we can be sareless and indiffereut. The fact that we are "laborera together witn God ' ' should increase onr zeal and earnestness. What an honor to be a colaborar with God ! It means sucoess, for God never f ails. It means fellowship and partnership with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It means encouragemeut, reward, happiness and nseftilness. Let usstrive then, stimulated by the successes of the past, to go forward in the future, still trusting in God, in such a way that though colaborers with God we shall be workmen who need not be ashamed.
