EPWORTH LEAGUE. LflASon Jt'or le Week IJeginning Feli. 9 Comment Rev. W. J. Yates, A. M. Tupi.:, Personal Work. ScniPTCHE Keadiko.- John iii, 1-3; Math. Xix, lti; Luke xix, 5; John iv, l-,0. Christ'.s ways of winning sonls is the general topic for study during February. Our work is to win ïneu (o Him. In no other way can we so woll learn how to do this work na by studying Hia owti niethod. He doclared, "And I, if I ba lifted up, will draw all men unto Me." We are to roly not upcu onr own e.loqueuce ór persuasivenea i, not nppn jíoculiar methods aud artistic attractions, but upon üie snbstantial truth which can becomo sure foundations for a sonl's salvation. In all this work recognition must be had of the powerlessuess of all hnman effort in itself. The divine Spirit mnst take the thiugs of God and impress them as a seal upon the heart of the sinner, or there will bo no chaugeof life froni evil to good. This abidiug power and preseuce of the Holy Spirit is promised every trne and devoted worker for Christ. Skill in the use of the appointed means of ealvation eau be acquired by the workers. This is a legitímate subject of study. How did Christ do? What would He do in a case like the present one? Earnest desire to know His rnind and persistent seeking to acquire His inethods will not fail to makeone more efficiënt in reaching and influenciug men. This work cannot be delegated to others. Angels conld not do the work of God in saving mea. The mere proclamatiou of God 's will and law uever moves any one to do it. By the law is the knowledge of sin, and as men realize their contrariuess to God's nature they naturally bate His rule. Angels might bring the law, but could -uever give grace to the huinan heart. Jesus when He comes brings life and immortality to light, lessby what Hesaid than by what He was and what He did. He not only told men of the love of God, bnt He loved men as God, and love awakened answering love. Law never can have such response. Augels never knew the depths of love divine, and so could never reveal it. Only souls that know the divine compassion and sympathyare fitted to save men to God. This is the reason that those gifted with little of earthly learning or culture, but possessed of souls aflame with earnest love of men and God, have of ten been the most successful evacgolists. They touch men and awaken them to a better life. So Christ sought out men. He bocame like them that He might make them like Himself. S. F. JFritz, of 677 Sedgwick street, Chicago, says: ''I had a tevere cough iiich settled on my lurigs. I tried a iiumber of advertised rtmedies aad ilso placed myself under trcatment of 3everal physièians, with no bjeneófe I ft'iis recommended to try Foley's Iloney ld Tar. Witli little expeetation of ïetting relief. I purcliased a bottle. I tiad taken but few doses when I feit ïeatly iraproved; I was enabled to sleep, spitting of blood eeased, and by tlie time I had taken the second bottle [ was entirely well. It saved my Iife." A. E. Mummery, druggist, Anii Arbor.
