Iu a recent after dinner speech Eider Haggard meutioned two old literary coincidences tjbat liad occurred iu connectiun WJth his works. One of these concerned his invention of au incident, on the Tana river, where a mission station was attacked by the Masai and the rnission people were killed. Strange to say, aftev his imaf.inary account had appeared, mPf.e. missionaries did found a station on that river, were attaoked by the Masai and some of them were killed. In his book, "The People of the Mist," he had flsed upon an unknown part of África and had described a región trom his inner consciousuess, aud only a week bef ore the speech was made a company, in which the author is a director, had sent ont orders to take possession of the very tract he had in view, and so far as the reports of the uative agents who had inspected itwent he believed his descriptious were fairly correct.
