Charles Porter, a farm hand in the employ of Henry Hays, residing two miles from Dexter, committed suicide last Friday tinder peculiar conditions. Hays had driven to 'Dexter, leaving his wife alone in the house. Her story is to the affect that wbile she was at work in the raorning Porter carne into the house with a jevolver in his hand. What passed is nofe exsctly known but the pistol was discharged. Mrs. Hays fouud the bullet in her clothes when she undressed at night. After the&hooting Mrs. Hays wont to a neighbor's and stayed üntil her husband's return in the afternoon. Porter had disappeared and search revealed his remains in the barn. The revolver lay close by him. Porter is 19 years of age, and was formerly in the Coldwater school, entering Hays' einploy last fall. _It is said that the suicide had often threatened to end his life The inquest into the suicide of Pnrter was held at Dexter Wednesday. Mrs. Hays testified that Porter came to the house from the bain in the morning, went up stairs and cauie down j shortly. He never said a word and she paid no attenton to him. She heard the report and feit the sting of the bullet ou her neck. She jumped up and said," what are you doing?" Porter asked if the bnllet struck her and she told him that it had grazed her neck. He expressed regret and went out to the barn. She went to the neighbors and the discovery of the suicide was made as already stated The jury brought in a verdiot of suicide.
