Iowa Soldiers' Monument

Des Moisés, la., Feb. 6.- The soldiers' monument comniission met Tuesday and adopted the following inscriptions that are to be carved in the granito base and shaf t of the monument. On the base is to be the insoription by Harriet A. Ketchain, under the bas-relief of the battle of Fort Donelson: "The bravest of the brave. - U. S. Grant." Under the bas-relief of the triumphal return wlll be the inacriptlon: "Right is right; God is right, and right prevalía." In tho die back of the allegorlcal figure of Iowa: "Iowa - her affections, like the rivers of her borders, flow on the inseparable unión." Under the allcgorical flgure of Victory: "A tribute f rom Iowa to courage, patriotism and distinguished services of all soldiers and sailors f rom Iowa who fought in the war of the rebel 1 ion." Members of the commission said that the report made two years ago on tho matter of location will not be changod. Aa to the . discussion in the legislatura of changes in the medaillons and other art works on thí monument, they say they will not consider the matter unless actlon is taken by the legislatura ord ring it. They are satisfled with their work and will make no changes. ,
