A dog fancier once took exception to Professor Hnxley's assertion that "one of the most curious peculiarities of tha dog mind was its inherent snobbishness, shown by the regard paid to esternal respectability. The dog who barks f uriously at a beggar will let a well dressed man pass him without opposition. " He said that, in f act, only dogs of well dressed persons act so. Dogs accustomed to men in rags bark, not at beggars, but at persons clothed in sleek broadcloth.
